Ghisallo: the spirit and history of cycling
The Sanctuary of the Madonna del Ghisallo is a unique place, custodian of stories, emotions and devotions inextricably linked to cycling. Here, among relics and memories, lives the soul of a sport that is effort, passion and legend.
In 1949, with a papal bull by Pius XII, the Madonna del Ghisallo was proclaimed Patron Saint of Cyclists, sealing a deep bond between the hill and cyclists from all over the world who face the triumphs and defeats of life and sport with heart and courage.
All the great champions have passed through the sanctuary, from Giovanni Gerbi to Tadej Pogačar, passing through Girardengo, Binda, Coppi, Bartali, Magni, Merckx, Nibali and countless others. Many of them have built legendary enterprises here, flying away to the sound of the Bells of Ghisallo towards the conquest of the Giro di Lombardia. Many of them, together with thousands of enthusiasts and devotees from all over the world, return to the Sanctuary to donate a trophy, a relic as an ex-voto and dedication. To relive the emotions of over a century of cycling and to honor its people, stories and passion.
